“My name is Evaldas Gulbinas. I am a tattoo / fine artist currently working from home during the COVID-19 outbreak. I am interested in the aesthetic side, which gives me the opportunity to explore and create drawings digitally. Digital media, for me, is the easiest way to express myself. I create drawings from my memory and imaginative world. I feel I have skills from tattooing and can combine them through digital drawing. I often use human motifs to express my feelings to the current situation in quarantine time. There are lots of elements, which are connected to COVID-19. I could describe my work as graphic art, my own imagination and rules. Sometimes in my drawings, I use no colours to express dark times. I think it is about your mental state. When I want to feel more happy, I use more colours in my drawing, which gives a light. I am using virus motifs, as I had to work in the tattoo studio at the COVID-19 outbreak start in London, UK. I felt that I was “playing with fire”, when I was tattooing tourists- customers at the beginning of the outbreak in central London, Uk. Yes, it was scary, but fun as well, as some people were super fun.
After, the studio was shut down and we were all staying at home just drawing and chilling. This experience stuck in my head and I cannot forget it. Now, I’m trying to improve my art language, by creating drawings digitally. I think it’s fun, because it’s easy to express the idea and to draw it out. From my last studies, BA fine art mixed media, I’ve learned how to create art by picking any media. For me it is the first- idea. Once, I have an idea to communicate the message in my head- the next step is media to express. I think the idea which comes from me is very important- “It’s a power, which keeps you rolling to create”. I think creating digital drawings will give me more skills for the future as well... Inspiration comes from the idea itself, which can come to my head anytime. Inspiration could be from anything...
In the future, I hope to get back to tattooing. In October, I should start studying Masters in Fine art at University of the Arts London, UK. Here, I’m willing to gain more skills and have an absolute creative fun time.”
